This is a clip from an HBO documentary about Dr Dre and Eminem and how they met and the struggles they went through to get Eminem started in his hip hop career. You think these cool rappers are just effortlessly cool on stage but they put in the effort to look like that and this video shows that.
I agree with him that hip-hop is fundamentally black, but it’s also fundamentally American, and America is many colors. It’s interesting to see how racism almost prevented Eminem from even getting started.
I never knew the origin of ‘My name is Slim Shady.’ I always assumed Dre and Eminem were kind of friends before that song came out, given the lyrics. And it blows my mind that he came up with the hook just two minutes after hearing the beat.
